Prize of the President of the National Bank of Poland

FESSUD researcher Paweł Marszałek was awarded the prestigious prize of the President of the National Bank of Poland for his book entitled book “Free Banking Monetary Systems: Ideas, Features and Applicability“. The prize is awarded every three years to outstanding publications in the field of banking and finance; tis is the second edition.

The book describes various aspects and dimensions of the free banking monetary systems. They are discussed as an alternative to the monetary systems of the central banking, which are typical for contemporary economies. Considering potential switch to the free banking frameworks, one has, however, to take into account numerous economic, sociological and cultural factors. One of the most important among them is financialization itself. FESSUD research enabled to asses thoroughly impact that financialization has on organization and functioning of the monetary systems.

Moreover, interdisciplinary and pluralistic approach, assumed in FESSUD, altogether with heterodox nature of the project, allowed for detailed and holistic analysis of the modern free banking models and theories. In consequence, it was possible to identify clearly flaws and inconsistencies of the modern free banking. Thus, potential transition to the free banking systems, even despite instability of existing monetary solutions, was claimed in the book as undesirable or even harmful.
